On 15.07.2019, Open defence of
the PhD thesis entitled “Synthesis and Characterization of doped and undoped nanostructured
nickel oxide” by the candidate Ms. Lakshmi S Nair was carried out at Auditorium
with Prof. N V Unnikrishnan as the chairman of the proceedings. The minutes and
some photos are attached herewith.
Synopsis of the PhD work-See above
On 15.07.2019 AN, Department
level induction program was conducted for PG first-year students “Enigma”. Professor
Ramesh Chandra Nath was the chief speaker. For the information for my blog
reader, I am attaching some details of him.
Ramesh Chandra Nath was born and
brought up in Mayurbhanj, Orissa. After finishing B.Sc. (Physics) from MPC
College, Baripada, Orissa, he obtained his M.Sc. in Physics from Utkal
University, Bhubaneswar. He did his PhD in experimental condensed matter
physics, from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay with Prof.
Avinash V. Mahajan on "low-dimensional spin systems". Subsequently,
he moved to University of Dortmund as a postdoc and worked on experimental soft
condensed matter physics in the group of Prof. Roland Bohmer. He then spent two
years at the Max-Planck Institute of Chemical Physics of Solids (MPI - CPfS),
Dresden, Germany in the group of Prof. Christoph Geibel and one and half years
at the Ames Laboratory, Iowa, USA in the group of Prof. David Johnston as a
postdoc and worked on strongly correlated systems. In October 2009 he joined as
an assistant professor in the school of physics, IISER Thiruvananthapuram. His
research interests range from soft condensed matter to hard condensed matter
physics. His areas of expertize are synthesis, crystal growth, structural
properties, thermodynamic properties, and low-temperature solid-state NMR.
Dr. Mamtha Sahoo is the spouse of
Dr. Ramesh Chandra Nath. I am thankful to both for giving a helping hand to the
first-year students who have come to this department with big dreams. Attaching
some photos of the same
On 16.07.2019, Xerxes along with
Enigma offered farewell to Questa Nova, 2017-19 PG batch of our department. I congratulate
Priyalekhmi as well as all her friends who effectively arranged the send-off
party at Auditorium, Department of Physics, University of Kerala. Attaching
some photos of the same.
