I am happy to share that I had the privilege of mentoring Ms. Lekshmi R Mohan, M.Sc. Physics student from All Saints’ College, Thiruvananthapuram, for her Aspire Scholarship Project titled “Structural and Photoluminescence Properties of Rare Earth Activated Bismuth Borate Phosphor.” Her work was carried out from 18 February to 21 April 2025, focusing on the luminescent behavior of rare-earth-doped phosphors, a topic with exciting applications in photonics. Sharing here a photo with her and her sister — a small memory of this meaningful journey.

Honoring Excellence | KUTA 2025

I was privileged to serve as a member of the organizing executive committee and as the coordinator for awards recognition during the "Farewell & Academic Excellence Awards Meet 2025" conducted by the Kerala University Teachers’ Association (KUTA) on April 10, 2025, at CV Raman Hall, Kariavattom Campus.

It was a proud moment to be part of a program that celebrated the achievements of our colleagues across diverse academic disciplines. From global recognitions such as Stanford’s Top 2% Scientist listing to prestigious national awards and international fellowships, the honorees have truly inspired us to aim higher. I am especially glad to have been part of the felicitation of patent awardees and those contributing to the cultural and scientific heritage of the University.

Honored to welcome Professor Jean Surdej, world-renowned astrophysicist and Honorary Full Professor at the University of Liège, Belgium, to our Department of Physics. With over 40,000 citations and an H-index of 69, Professor Surdej is a towering figure in modern astrophysics, especially known for his pioneering contributions in gravitational lensing, spectral line formation, and P Cygni profiles. Accompanied by his wife Mrs. Ann, Professor Surdej interacted warmly with our faculty and students, sharing insights from his incredible scientific journey that spans across continents—from ESO Chile to NASA’s Space Telescope Institute and ARIES, India. I am happy to share that I have officially taken charge as the Head of the Department of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, University of Kerala, effective April 1, 2025.

It’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of Dr. I. Hubert Joe, whose contributions have elevated the department to great heights. I look forward to building upon this strong foundation, working closely with my colleagues and students to foster interdisciplinary research, academic excellence, and innovation.

Grateful for the support and trust from the university community as I begin this new chapter.

I was delighted to deliver a talk at Sree Narayana College, Varkala, as part of the TRENDZ Seminar Series 2025 organised by the PG Department of Physics. Speaking on “2D Materials for a Sustainable Energy Future” , I had the opportunity to introduce students and faculty to the fascinating world of ultrathin materials, their role in next-generation fuel cells, and how they tie into the broader vision of sustainable development. We discussed why 2D materials are considered the future-high surface area, tunable properties, and exceptional catalytic behaviour-while also reflecting on the challenges such as large-scale fabrication, stability, and commercialization. A Moment of Grace and Responsibility In the sacred silence of a church, we often see a priest standing before the congregation. He may not always be the wisest, the most talented, or the most scholarly in the scriptures. Yet, once chosen to stand in that space, he carries a responsibility, not of perfection, but of presence. He becomes a vessel, entrusted to speak, to guide, and to serve. These words, shared by Nazeeb Sir, deeply resonate with me. Today, I stood before an august gathering that included the respected IQAC Director and faculty members from across the University, not as the most accomplished, but as one entrusted with a message. 🌟 Kudos to Dr. Rakhi R. B., our proud alumna of the Department of Physics, University of Kerala. She has once again made it to the Stanford University-Elsevier “Top 2% Scientists of the World” list, based on the August 2025 update of the Ioannidis standardized citation database (DOI: 10.17632/btchxktzyw.8). This recognition covers both career-long impact up to 2024 and single-year citation influence for 2024, highlighting her global standing in nanomaterials and energy research. 👏 What makes this truly remarkable is that it is the 6th consecutive year she has retained her place in this prestigious global list, reflecting sustained excellence, consistent contributions, and leadership in research.
