Department Level Induction Program
The Department level induction program was conducted on 15.09.2017 at Physics Department Auditorium and Dr. K G Gopchandran Sir, Head, Department of Optoelectronics was the chief guest. Program started with welcome from Dr. G Subodh, HOD, Department of Physics. He extended a warm welcome to the chief guest. The program went very well that we believe it was the best induction program till date that we could offer to newly joined students in Physics Department. Henceforth, I want to share the happenings to the blog readers so that you too may get a glimpse of the happenings on this day. Prof. Gopchandran sir talked about various aspects about enlarging our thoughts and visions so that we can do justice as the descendants of proud family of elite teacher and researcher like Prof. Vishwanathan sir, Student of C V Raman and the Founder HOD of Department of Physics. It is often fascinating to see that this department functions in the best way possible even if in the most chaotic environments. Prof. K G Gopchandran was pointing out that this is only possible because of the grace that is showered up in this department starting from C V Raman. As we all know Sir C V Raman, the only Indian Nobel Laureate in science had taken personal interest in visiting the department on its time of establishment. The luminaries and visionaries like Prof. Balaram, Prof. Devanarayan, Prof. Aruldhas and many more were instrumental and played key role in setting up the standard of the department. I believe that when we speak of any universities, science departments are often given limelight because science has now become a way of living and technology has toughed us in different dimensions of our life. The chief guest was also pointing out that the way the science is progressing itself shows us that there are innumerable opportunities awaiting for us if we stand together. As we must be aware of rights, we must be also responsible regarding our duties. This quote does ring bells, isn’t it? Yes it does! Now the era of getting our rights is shifting to an era of consequences of our duties. Gopchandran sir was definitely striking the knots to bring music of harmony that the department should have so that students and teachers many join hands to work for their mutual benefit and life goals. In between his speech, he was also mentioning about Artificial Intelligence, Laser aided Travel and many other innovative ideas which could shape the world in a different way unimaginable in the wildest dreams of the any scientist. Such is the possibility that awaits us. I presume that these thoughts were quite apt to be shared to the young minds who listened to him with prime attention and without a blink of eye. Attaching some photos of the same….
Again our former HOD, Dr. V Biju aslo shared some of
the interesting stories regarding Prof. Viswanathan sir to substantiate the
thoughts put forward by Prof. K G Gopchandran sir. Biju sir was talking about
the healthy tussle between Sir C V Raman and Prof Max Born and how Prof. Viswanathan
was the key person in solving the tussle between the theories put forward by
Raman and Born by using Statistical interpretation of Phonon in the theory of
Lattice Vibration. When such a tradition exists in our department, we should be
proud as well as understand that this grace will definitely pull out that extra
energy in us to change us from ordinary human being to super humans. I felt
that the activation energy required for the students was given in ample time
with necessary evidence to recreate the joy of learning. Biju sir was also mentioning
that students should use their time and effort wisely and judicially. It is your own choice in life whether to use freedom in the direction of development or not.
Freedom is always there for students but making the freedom scattered in many dimensions also may cost your
life. Your pursuit of knowledge should be considered most fruitful goal in coming two years so that we may have made the foundation in Physics
so strong that we would never fall. The thought may be deep but he put the above
thought in simple words by saying that before talking about wave function
collapse, a student should at least learn to solve the solved problems in
quantum mechanics using wave function. Yeah, it does make sense. All want to expand
in all dimensions but first knowing yourself, knowing your physics terrain is
more important than jumping in all dimensions without clarity. To conclude, Dr.
Udaychandran Tampy, Dr. I N Jawahar and myself extended warm regards and wishes
for their all success in coming days.
I have tried to bring forth all the thoughts which
were put forward in this induction program for my blog readers to go through so
that I can put a firm statement. “We, Department of Physics, are going to make
a big bang with clarity and definitely with a goal for the pursuit of enlightenment
through Physics”
Cheers
Sibi
