Department Level Induction Program and IQAC International Seminar
Department
of Physics, University of Kerala, Organized a one day orientation program for
newly joined M Sc students (2016-18 Batch) on 25th August 2016 as a
part of Two tire induction program. We had three invited speakers
1.
Dr. I N Ponpandian, Associate Professor
at Department of Nanoscience and technology, Bharathiar university.
2.
Dr.V Unnikrishnan Nayar, Former Prof & head,Dept of
Optoelectronics, University of Kerala,
Kariyavattom.
Kariyavattom.
3.
Prof. K Madhusoodanan Pillai, Former
Head, Department of Physics, University College, Trivandrum.
Dr.
Ponpandian introduced the students to the world of material science research
and the attitude that a student should have while pursuing a career in Physics.
Constant involvement and hard work is a must for success. He also highlighted
the fact that ignorance is not a problem until we have not let off the desire
to study the unknown facts. The students were asked to peruse their challenge
with untiring spirits and Vigor.
Dr. Unnikrishnan Nayar
was also one among the most valued invited speaker for the program. He is an alumnus
of our department. The history of development of physics, the need for working
24X7, the limited facilities that was available those times, The hazards faced
were discussed in a bird’s eye view. He was still young in his thoughts and enthusiastic
in his attitude to share the thrill and wonder in doing Physics. Hearing from
his perspective about physics, I wonder how energetic and compassionate he
would have been in his college days. I like this opportunity on behalf of all
my blog readers to appreciate his thoughts which differentiate him from others.
It is really hard to find real motivators who could lead the students in the
right way with right pace using the right view in the present scenario.
Let me also thank Prof.
Madhusoodanan for his concluding remarks in the seminar. The question that
ponders physics students is often like “Why we do Physics?” According to Madhusoodanan
sir, we do physics because Physics makes the world a better place to live. From the Laws of motion by Sir Isaac Newton
to Pauli’s exclusion principle has conveyed us how nature works, and the thrill
in journey of understanding the nature. We see it around; we understand it
better through Physics. Yes, his words are a new start for us for a pursuit of
novel thoughts.
International Seminar
On 29 August 2016, IQAC
(Internal Quality Assurance Cell) and TPLC (Translational Research and
Professional leadership) jointly organized a one day International Seminar on “Attracting
Research funding: Opportunities and Approaches” at Hotel South Park, Palayam. Honorable
Minister of Finance, Dr. T M Thomas Issac inaugurated the program. Thomas Issac
sir conveyed his immense regards towards the home university of Kerala and
promised that he will support is with full potential for improving the
facilities in the university. His pleasant nature and wider perspectives attracts
general audience that is why we, who resides in Alappuzha does follow him in his
ideologies and environmental concerns. The details of the program are attached
herewith.
After the inauguration there
were parallel sessions for science as well as arts subjects. I was fortunate enough
to hear from Dr. P S Anilkumar, IISc, Bangalore about how to attract research
fund with cautious proposal writing keeping the evaluators in mind. All the
discussions which he made was to the point and useful for young researchers in
University. It is with at most pleasure that I would like to thank and congratulate
Dr. Achuthsankar S Nair, Director, IQAC for providing a platform for discussion
and his efforts will definitely bear fruits in coming years.
And to finish with
updates in August, I along with Mr. Noushad, Assistant Professor, Department of
Arabic, participated in Department’s Union Onam celebration Shuttle tournament.
We could reach up top semi-finals. I love this game so passionately that the
thrill remains even after we lost. It may be rude to my blog readers to say
that there are lots of Physics involved in playing shuttle. The play can be
refined a lot with proper guidance from an expert if he or she is able to
handle the bat correctly. I am happy to be apart of students gatherings and
wish them best in all the endeavors.
