About me
It is hard to write about me. But
still I will take this risk so that I could thank all my students who took the
initiative in giving me a Birthday Treat on 06.02.2015 in our Department
Auditorium. First of all let me attach some photos of the same.
I believe that I am here because
I should be a teacher, a motivator, a guide and a mentor to all my students.
And I know I couldn’t standup to the expectations sometimes. But my motto is “Never
Give up”. I take this opportunity to share a little philosophy that inspired me
a lot.
How do you explain when things
don't go the way we like to, and when others are able to achieve things? For example why is “Apple” (I
myself have brought one recently) so innovative? They're just a computer company
like everyone else. Martin Luther King led the civil rights movement. He wasn't
the only man who suffered in a pre-civil rights in America and he certainly wasn't
the only great orator of the day. (In Present, persons like Malala Yousafzai, Arvind Kejriwal too seems that there are not the only ones who struggle). Why is
it that the Wright brothers were able to figure out how to control powered manned
flight when there were certainly other teams who were better equipped?
The Reason lies in nothing but
on their view on how they thought the world was. Look closely, there is a pattern in
these great and inspiring leaders and organizations in the world whether it's
Apple or Martin Luther king or the Wright brothers. They all think act and
communicate in the exact same way. It's the complete opposite to everyone else. They
had a very simple answer to why we do that we do.
Let me give you an example. We all
want Apple because we experience that the leader understands everybody needs. If Apple were like
everyone else, a marketing message from them might sound like this “We make
great computers they're beautifully designed, simple to use and user friendly”.
Apple actually communicates everything
but just saying “We believe life is a poem, and you can add a verse to it”. So
simple and profound that it cut shorts everything to these words. (I hope you
have seen the ads.) Now before taking the case of Wright brothers, let me tell
about Samuel Pierpont Langley. He was a millionaire in pursuit of powered
manned flight. Samuel Pierpont Langley had what we assume to be the recipe for
success-money, power, connections with Harvard University Scholars, Godfathers.
Orville and Wilbur Wright had none. They paid for their dream with their hard
earned money from their bicycle shop. Not a single person on the Wright brother’s
team had a college education. But they were driven by a purpose, by a belief. They
believe that they could figure out this flying machine. Samuel Pierpont
Langley was different; he wanted to be rich, famous. But look and behold what
happened to those people who believe. The blood, sweat and tears worked for the
paycheck and they created the history. December 17th 1903, Wright
brothers took flight. Further Langley was motivated by the wrong thing on the
day the Wright brothers took flight, he quit. He could have said that's an
amazing discovery and will improve upon your technology. But he didn't. So it
is also important to appreciate things and never give up believing in yourself.
Now, about
Martin Luther. In those times there were leaders who were ready to hold a
position of power or authority but none who could inspire. Believe me, we don’t
follow those who orders. We follow who let us dream, who inspire us. He gave us
the dream speech. He never said about a plan but the politicians at present come
up with comprehensive 100-point plans, because they are leaders who like to be
in top. History shows that we follow those who starts with us, inspire us to find the reason why we do what
we do.
I
have shared this since Sarika, my II M Sc Student had shared that I should
never stop motivating. Last by not least let me thank Uday for materializing a beautiful day in my life.
Thank you all.
