Dear all, I am happy to see an overwhelming response from my M Sc, Mphil students and research scholars to attend the SPL day lecture by Ashoke Sen on 29.06.2015. A total of 42 persons including myself was lucky enough to attend the talk of such a distinguished person in international community. Let me share a little about his credentials. ASHOKE SEN ,   FRS   is an Indian   theoretical physicist   and distinguished professor at the   Harish-Chandra Research Institute,   Allahabad. He also is the Morningstar Visiting professor at   MIT   and a distinguished professor at the   Korea Institute for Advanced Study. His main area of work is   String Theory. He was among the first recipients of the   Fundamental Physics Prize   “for opening the path to the realisation that all string theories are different limits of the same underlying theory”. I was delighted to deliver a talk at Sree Narayana College, Varkala, as part of the TRENDZ Seminar Series 2025 organised by the PG Department of Physics. Speaking on “2D Materials for a Sustainable Energy Future” , I had the opportunity to introduce students and faculty to the fascinating world of ultrathin materials, their role in next-generation fuel cells, and how they tie into the broader vision of sustainable development. We discussed why 2D materials are considered the future-high surface area, tunable properties, and exceptional catalytic behaviour-while also reflecting on the challenges such as large-scale fabrication, stability, and commercialization. The interaction was warm, thoughtful, and energetic, and it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the students during their paper presentations.
