April – May 2019 updates


It is a long time since I have come up with any news/updates in the Physics department. I should say that I was on vacation as well as I had been held up with many duties such as election, Alumni etc. Now I have a little bit of space and time to share about the past two months.
So let us begin with the oldest ones
On 24 February 2019, I delivered a lecture on “Idea fest” at Motivational camp and Motivational visit Programme at St. Michael’s College, Cherthala. The program was a part of Walk with the Scholar Scheme. The talk was on the need for youth to focus on the self-earning process while learning. Starting a Business is no longer a dream. If you have a dream, the government has plans to make it visualize.

On 25 February 2019, I was the chief guest for Science day 2019 celebration at Department of Physics, SN College, Cherthala. The topic of discussion was “Science-Past, Present and future”. I touched upon the history of the development of Science, present State of Science and also how our lives are modified as we move on. Teachers have the most important part to play since with the advent of Artificial Intelligence, memorizing things is no longer a virtue. I thank Miss. Savitha, HOD, Department of Physics, for inviting me for the function. Thanks a lot for the hospitality offered to me.






On February 26, 2019, conducted a Quiz program for Science day celebration at KUCTE, Kumarapuram. The Quiz was related to Conservation of Nature. There were six teams and I am happy that the faculty at KUCTE found me apt to conduct a quiz for these brilliant students.






On February 27, 2018, I was the chief guest for Science day inauguration at NSS College, Nilamel. I talked about various interesting aspects of Fourier transform and how a skilled knowledge in a particular subject could make our life magical. I thank my student Akhila for inviting me to the ceremony.

I was delighted to deliver a talk at Sree Narayana College, Varkala, as part of the TRENDZ Seminar Series 2025 organised by the PG Department of Physics. Speaking on “2D Materials for a Sustainable Energy Future” , I had the opportunity to introduce students and faculty to the fascinating world of ultrathin materials, their role in next-generation fuel cells, and how they tie into the broader vision of sustainable development. We discussed why 2D materials are considered the future-high surface area, tunable properties, and exceptional catalytic behaviour-while also reflecting on the challenges such as large-scale fabrication, stability, and commercialization. A Moment of Grace and Responsibility In the sacred silence of a church, we often see a priest standing before the congregation. He may not always be the wisest, the most talented, or the most scholarly in the scriptures. Yet, once chosen to stand in that space, he carries a responsibility, not of perfection, but of presence. 🌟 Kudos to Dr. Rakhi R. B., our proud alumna of the Department of Physics, University of Kerala. She has once again made it to the Stanford University-Elsevier “Top 2% Scientists of the World” list, based on the August 2025 update of the Ioannidis standardized citation database (DOI: 10.17632/btchxktzyw.8).
