Happy Christmas

Dear Friends,

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from bottom of my heart. Every Christmas is a beautiful memory in the sense that we gather, we talk, we look for cakes, we dance and we enjoy the moments of togetherness. These memories put a lot of colours to our lives. This year in the coordination of XERXES, first-year students of Department of Physics organized a mesmerizing Christmas. The program started around 11 pm. II year and I year students exchanged their Christmas gift. I got hold of two gifts from my Xmas friends Aswathy and Ajanya while I could give a small gift to Umalekshmi and Anju. Attaching some Photos of the same.

The Christmas celebration started as soon as gifts were exchanged. Gopika of First-year M Sc batch befittingly compared the event. Varsha delivered the welcome speech while I could inaugurate the event with a Christmas message. For my blog readers, I would like to share my Christmas message. While I used to teach in my Sunday school, many doubts arise from students who watch new generation movies like Da Vinci Code about exitance of Jesus Christ and So on. Stories, films, thoughts, logic etc in this present world do question heaven. I still remember that when da Vinci code was released, church authorities had given strict warning to believers not to visit the theatres showing such films. But you all know what will happen if Adam or eve is forbidden to do something. In fact, after the warning, the film had a number of houseful shows. Questions raised in these media are so heavy that Heavens do collapse. But if had often felt that the question whether Jesus lived or died does have least significance. We talking debating about it is a puny of a thought. The real question which we should ask is whether his teachings are relevant or not? “Forgive” a simple word but how many of us can do that? What harms we had done and what others have done to you is so filled up in the memory that the word “Forgive” never comes in our dictionary. The message to forgive is a hard one to digest. In a world ruled by superstars like Rajani, Vijay, Aquaman, Batman, Ironman, we fight till the evil is no more. But whenever a Joker is killed, a new Thanos arrives. The battles go on forever for our superheroes and that is definitely good for their box office. But for the real us, what is the chance for us to be successful if we sought to fight a battle with all evil in the universe. According to probability theory, the success rate is so remote and may never happen. So as a follower of quantum theories, an event which has low success rate should be never be taken as a path isn’t it? In this context, we come across Jesus Christ our new superstar. His teaching is so inward that he says that if you forgive if you help if you care your brother, it is actually an offering to the creator itself. If you look closely, the ability to forgive brings joy to us rather than to others. It helps to enjoy the present life in its true spirits and every moment is a fresh blissful experience for us since we have already forgiven the bad memories. This defies logic but life is not actually logic. Logic is one part of life, isn’t it? I feel that his teachings are so relevant to the 750crore people in the earth to coexist otherwise definitely as we talk in astrophysics, the earth is doomed. May this Xmas, let us appreciate his teaching in full sprits. Maybe it will be the first step you can make the incoming new year.

Now coming back to event details, we had two music performance. One from Pooja (Violin) and another from Sanoj (Guitar). They are definitely gifted and I am proud of two being so talented in Music. Then we had the major event of the program. Fried Rice and chicken. Priya was the in charge in coordinating the lunch along with the Food Committee members. Today during the lunch break, I had a surprise visitor, my friend, my college, Dr Ajith Dain Thomas, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Government Engineering College, Barton Hill. Attaching some photos of the same.
Now coming to the afternoon session, the highlight was the dance performance by the whole first year students. The event couldn’t be bettered because we had an august audience that is my elective students. Now a few words to describe their effort. I should say that with XERXES, department of physics has visualized a new dimension. A dimension which was never known in the 3D box of Physics Department. Kudos dear friends. Meanwhile, Film club was constituted with Revathy as President and Hanna as Secretary. They used this day to air their first short film to the audience titled “HOPE”. It is an award-winning short film and I am sharing the link for all those who have missed the action.

Last but not least, few cherishing memories of the performance by Elective students. Along with Carol performance by chemistry and Geology students, we have a rocking solo dance performance by Athira, First Year Geology Student. She is full of DHOOM energy that I am proud that I am her teacher. Dance performance by them reminds me that life is full of energy. It is there with you and me but underutilized suppressed and hence never come to limelight. I too dance in my mind more than what Priya (Physics) and Athira (Geology) does. But in physical reality, what they do is an impossibility for me. But I have the heart to appreciate their effort. Thank you for your contribution. Again, the handmade cards from my students say a lot. Why a handmade Card? It shows their effort to write what means to them. Yeah…There is actually no need to teach them any Xmas message. I think I made an effort to write this down not for any of you who are reading this. This write up is for me to look back after some time to feel that I too had wonderful days in my life. I did conclude this with a quote from my last lecture on Astrobiology during my elective class. “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! It is indeed my pleasure to be your teacher”

Cheers
Sibi
