Today, Department of Optoelectronics organized a program to felicitate our newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. V P Mahadevan Pillai. We, Department of Physics, joined this program to congratulate Mahadevan Pillai Sir for his achievement. It is always delightful to hear to Professor since his humbleness is unmatched. It was really nice to hear the memories from his Guru, his colleagues, his students about how he was inside and outside the campus. This campus waits for the golden years to come. I take this opportunity to share with you, a story that Professor had told us while inaugurating the seminar on Electron Microscopy. Once, a foreigner was carrying a pot containing Indian Crabs. During his journey in flight, the cap of the pot suddenly broke loose. All began to panic. But this foreigner was all balanced and didn’t bother to find a solution to the open pot situation. People asked him why? He replied that “Indian Crabs can’t escape the pot even if the pot is open” People were surprised to see his answer. He added that if any of them tries to escape, others will pull it down! So there was nothing to worry at all. The story that Mahadevan Pillai sir shared stays with me till now. I think now we have a VC who knows the grounds of our university and will find effective ways to help us to find our full potential thereby bring us out of the Indian open pot.

Today it was the Introductory Program on Nobel Prize 2018 – “SOLASTA 2018” conducted by XERXES, First Year Students Club. The event was so emphatic that words are not sufficient to explain the quanta of effort produced by them. I am happy that the event was graced by the presence of the chief guest, Prof. K G Gopchandran. It is indeed my privilege to invite him to the event for which he kindly agreed. In his busy schedules, he finds time to be here with the students to interact. Nobel Prize is the dream which he put forward to the students. And I am happy to see that they respond so positively that I hope we should be able to get this one soon to our department!!! The photos attached here will speak volumes about the event. I would like to share with you my felicitation. Please see the PowerPoint slides of the Nobel Prizes below.

Today II year M Sc students gathered together to welcome the newly joined students to the Department. Lakshmi M, was entrusted to comparing the gathering. It was delightful to watch Lakshmi M step in for this event. Now I would like to mention Lakshmi M Vinod who gave a vivid explanation for the event name, NOVATO 2K18. All faculties expressed their joy in welcoming the new batch. Athira B S sang a song for us. Priyanka, Neenu, Alisha, Anju, Shabina and Aswathy joined the party by presenting the dance event. I thought it would be apt here to mention that there were many faces who surprised me with their programs who had kept their skills hidden for a long time. I think we should give QUESTA NOVA another chance to make one more eventful memory. On this day, I had been called by the Second Year Students to celebrate the Birthday of Krishnendu. I am happy that they find me as their friend and thank you all for sharing those moments with me. Cheers to all.
