Happy Christmas....December Updates
Dear all,
Happy Christmas to all….
Today
I am writing to you to report about two activities which I have involved in the
past few days. Program one is the visit to Trivandrum observatory on December
7, 2017. Program two is invited talk by Dr. Antony on the topic “Solar Corona
Problem” (December 11, 2017). Let me detail to you the above events.
The
first event is really one of its kind. It was a long cherished dream to go with
students for a field trip outside Kariavattom campus. The main motivation
behind the program was the spirits of first year students. They were willing
and ready to take up the call to make a visit to observatory. We left the
campus by 2:30 pm to reach Planetarium, Pattom. We watch the planetarium
theatre show at 3:00 pm. All the students may have visited the place when they
were kids. But to be once again the same kids after few years was really a
moment to watch. The students gathered together and planned to make a visit to
observatory. It was nice to see that they decided to walk the distance. By 4:30
pm, they reached the destination. They spend some quality time having a spirit
of togetherness. They organised many programs such as music, dance, singing
song, dub-smash and even had a group discussion on Astronomy and Astrology. Meanwhile
Dr. Antony S, Assistant Professor on deputation, visited us and delivered a
speech on Astronomy. His session was
active in such a manner that each student participated in the discussion with
their own opinion about the topic. At 6: 15 pm, it was almost approaching darkness,
so we decided to spend time out side along with the telescopes. Dr. V Biju,
Director, Observatory had already made arrangements and instructed the
technical assistant for showing us the sky. Students were enthusiastic and
happy that a clear sky helped them to observe stars and planets. Attaching some
photos of the same.
Second
event was actually a consequence of the first event. Dr. Antony Sir said that
he would help us with some topics regarding the research problems in astronomy.
The topic he selected was the solar corona problem. The event started on 2:00
pam, December 11, 2017. There were around 24 participants from the department. Students
spend some quality time in understanding the science behind the temperature
anomaly of the corona region and the photosphere. The way of narration was in
such a manner that the speaker interacted in between in timely manner regarding
the many aspects of sun. I thank Dr. Antony S for interacting with our students
and spending his valuable time even in adverse situations. Attaching Some
Photos of the same.
I
will be updating new events soon…. Keep in touch
Cheers
Sibi
