November Update 2: Eventful Month

Few more activities have happened. Hence i feel that November is always eventful. On 18.11.2017, I have been actively involved as Jury member for Shasthrolsavam-Science Fest-Ernakulum District. This time i had the opportunity to see the improvised experiments. The important thing that we can notice is that students are eager to share their ideas, knowledge with vigor and enthusiasm. It is appreciable that students are benefited in many folds while participating in science fest. Firstly, they get grace mark of 30 marks, which is good and fine as an appreciation of their efforts. Secondly, they could see and interact with all those curious minds in science. After evaluating the program, it is sure that there are many firms which are involved in making ready made projects for the students. But it doesn’t lessen their effort to learn them in most convincing way as possible to answer all the so called crooked questions. Yes, kudos to them for their efforts. Secondly, I could visit once again my college, St. Michael’s college for an invited talk on Optogentics on 24.11.2017. Every time I visit, I feel like to come again since memories of being a student are so strong in the air. Attaching some photos of the same...

Lastly, coming back to the department, I could organize a program on celebrating constitution day (26 November 2017). The preamble and Fundamental duties were read out to the students. Second year students took initiatives to club their ideas on the need for celebrating constitution day and also happily agreed to organize a general program on celebrating Flag day on 07.12.2017. To conclude let me share my views on why we need to be reminded about our constitution and effort required from our side to celebrate Flag Day. As a citizen of India, We should think about the immense blessing that we enjoy regarding the security and rights we enjoy in everyday life. As media has great influence in our society, short comings in the establishment, the bloodshed in battle fields are highlighted in big way through TV every day. It results in agitating minds and to generate negative emotions and thoughts about democracy setups. We must understand that no setups are perfect; each one has its own drawbacks. And remember that Democracy is still best way known in the earth to coexist. Even though there are many flaws, we could at least say that we are the reason for our own mistakes. In this context, we should find time to understand the benefits we have in our establishment and identification of ourselves as an Indian. 125 crore people with diverse beliefs, thoughts and languages in 29 different states and 7 union territories coexisting is itself a miracle to be highlighted. My friend, who is a soldier in Kashmir, do share the need to stay one with them. They fight for cause which is never theirs alone. If we could sit around in TV, eating pop corn and debating about everyday non-sense, there are many like him who is dying to protect these rights that we are enjoying. Once when I asked him about media highlighting Kashmir issues, he said to me that “Dear friend, I see death every day in and around me in the battle field. I am not sure that I will be back to see you next time. Think whether you have ever had such an emotion in life or could you recollect a day where you were pricked by a needle in the last ten years? Then, dear friend, if we could live with such uncertainties everyday still protecting the borders for you, what you should be doing is be with us in those moments with us through prayers and high spirits of supports for the cause we strive for. I was moved by these words. At least we should pledge our support in the cause they live for. Looking forward for Flag day celebrations.

Cheers

Sibi
