Induction Program and other activities

Induction Program

On 23.08.2016, at 9 00 am our school level induction program was conducted. After registration, Students from Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Mathematics and Demography gathered at Auditorium, Department of Physics, University of Kerala. Prof. P Mohanachandran Nair, Head, Department of Demography welcomed the gathering. Presidential address was delivered by Prof. T S Anirudhan. The Lamp was lighted by Dr. A Ajayagosh, Director NIIST. His talk was so inspirational and reminded us about our strength and how important is our decisions on making the future bytaking the opportunities, facing the difficulties with smile. Doing our karma gives us the chance to excel in our dreams. Dr. G Suresh Singh, Dr. M A Shibila, Dr. C Satheesh Kumar and Dr. G Subodh felicitated the function. Dr. S Anil Kumar extended vote of Thanks to the invited speakers and participants.

Technical session started by 11: 30 am. Talk on Demography is destiny by Dr. Irudayarajan, Fellow CDS, ullor commented about the significance of population studies. Overview on Credit and semester system was discussed in detailed by Dr. T S Anirudhan. I myself extended the vote of Thanks
The program was a platform for students from diverse field of science to share ideas as well as make friendship so that they could help each other out in their academic life ahead. I could see the enthusiasm, spark in their eyes to excel and to be like the dignitaries who shared their life achievements. I could really understand their thoughts since I believe that I keep a strong relation with my students. I take this opportunity to wish them the very best in their life. Let me end with a thought. It is our life, let us live by our decisions. Good or bad, we will face it head on. Because Zindagi Naa milengi doobara.

M G University Project /Course Viva for M Sc student batch 2014-16

I am extremely happy to share you about project evelaution and viva voca conducted at department of Physics, M G iniversity Kottayam on 4th August, 2016. It is definitely a nice place to visit. I could see many of familiar faces who are doing research in department especially delighted to meet my friend Saritha, my students Maneesh, Paravathy and others. They shared about their research experience and about how useful the facilities in the department were, for their conduct of research.
I met around 18 students who have taken course work on Astrophysics, photonics and Nanotechnology. I saw their confidence in presenting the subject. They were bold and I was surprised to see that they talked with no aids like smart board or any other electronic devices. I take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Indulekha, HOD, Department of Physics and other faculty members for monitoring and carefully attending their students and blooming up their skills and quality. It is indeed my pleasure to be associated with such personalities. I do feel inspired to see their decision making and competence in different situations. Once again thank you for your hospitality and concerns.

Ozone Day – Seminar Proposal

We Department of Physics, University of Kerala are placing a project proposal for a seminar on ozone day and its importance. : let me tell you briefly about the importance of the day and its current need for a discussion forum.
Of all the environmental issues that have emerged in the past few decades, global climate change is the most serious and the most difficult to manage. It is most serious because of the severity of harms it might bring. Many aspects of human society and well being-where we live, how we build, how we move around, how we war our living and what we do for recreation- still depends on the climate condition, even though we have reach industrial age. The dependence of climate change can be quantified scientifically by making analysis about economic harms and other human suffering that it has brought for example “El Nino” Cycle and multiyear droughts. Climate changes projected in this century are much larger than last century and their human impacts are likely to be correspondingly greater. Moreover, climate does not just affect people directly; it also affects all other environmental and ecological process, including many whose connection to climate might not be immediately recognizable. Consequently, large or rapid climate change will present a threat to other environmental issues such as air and water quality, ecosystem, biodiversity and of course coastal area and wetland.
Projections of future climate changes are uncertain since knowledge about physical quantities is itself following uncertainty principle. In our seminar, we propose to discuss this uncertainty and how to make decision about climate change under this aforesaid uncertainty. I want to comment that just because something is uncertain does not imply that advice on what to do about it is not valid. In particular it is not good to say that we will do nothing if the knowledge is uncertain. We shall  not wait for illness to becoming threating before we go to a doctor. Sometimes we take action only when we are very confident, precautions may help us in number of times.
Present projections of climate change are more serious which may be also catastrophic. This doesn’t mean that it should be extreme but likely to produce effects which are not reconcilable. It is definitely weighted on our decision in present situation
Climate change will be harder to be address in developing nation like India because mainly by burning fossil fuel we get our lion share of energy. No alternatives are now available that could replace this huge energy sources quickly and cheaply. Consequently climate change is at higher stakes than other environmental issues. When policy issues are at high stakes, it is necessary that common man is aware of the process. Seminars and debates is a necessity. Because the potential risks of climate changes are so serious as well as fossil fuels are also important for developing economies, We would expect to hear strong views. Let us hear from two imminent persons.
Former US Vice president Al Gore
“We, the human species are confronting a planetary emergencies- a threat to survival of our civilization that is gathering ominous and destructive potential even as we gather here. But there is hopeful news as well: we have the ability to solve this crisis and avoid the worst-though not all-of its consequences, if we act boldly, decisively and quickly”
Professor Richard Lindzen of MIT
“Ambiguous scientific statements about climate are hyped by those with a vested interest. They raise polices to provide funds for scientific research to fed more alarm. But there is more sinister side for this frenzy alarmism. Scientist who have dissent from alarmism have seen their grant funds disappear, their work derided and they labeled as science jokers. Consequently lies about climate change has credence even when they fly away from scientific basis”
One goal in this proposal is to clarify the climate change debate. We seek to help the concerned, non-expert citizens to understand about the climate change and to develop an opinion of what should be done about these issues. Before I stop, I am attaching herewith the audio of debate in our M Sc 2015-17 batch students. Adarsh S, Adesrh V, Nithin Gopi, Muhsina and Sinu presented their ideas in two minutes. Looking forward for the seminar... Be with me, stay tuned, We will have a brain storming session soon.
