Updates of Last week of March

I had an opportunity to give an invited lecture on “Solid State Physics” at St. Stephen’s College, Pathanapuram on March 18, 2016. I met around 30 students and some of them were familiar faces since they had attended my talk on “Nano science” at SN College, Punalur. I covered some basic topics related to XRD. One of student was very much motivated that she was interested to visit our campus to see the facilities like XRD, PL which are indispensable tools for material characterization.

On 29.03.2016, I had the pleasure to attend two sent-off meetings 1. Mr. M R Chandran (Chandran Mash), Technical assistant, Department of Electron Microscopy, NIIST, Trivandrum. 2. Mr. Sujith S S, Guest Faculty, Department of Physics, University of Kerala. Warm feeling and memories of togetherness touched us in many fold and these were made memorable ones especially by students. On 31.03.2016, I was appointed as committee member for USAP (University Skill Acquisition Programme- A level 2 continuing Program to ASAP) I thank our honorable Vice chancellor and Dr. Achuthsankar S Nair for finding me suitable to be a member of the same, Dr. Rajoo Krishnan, ASAP director, briefed the possibility of implementing skill oriented program in PG level of university and we extended full support for the same.

I was delighted to deliver a talk at Sree Narayana College, Varkala, as part of the TRENDZ Seminar Series 2025 organised by the PG Department of Physics. Speaking on “2D Materials for a Sustainable Energy Future” , I had the opportunity to introduce students and faculty to the fascinating world of ultrathin materials, their role in next-generation fuel cells, and how they tie into the broader vision of sustainable development. We discussed why 2D materials are considered the future-high surface area, tunable properties, and exceptional catalytic behaviour-while also reflecting on the challenges such as large-scale fabrication, stability, and commercialization. A Moment of Grace and Responsibility In the sacred silence of a church, we often see a priest standing before the congregation. He may not always be the wisest, the most talented, or the most scholarly in the scriptures. Yet, once chosen to stand in that space, he carries a responsibility, not of perfection, but of presence.
