February Updates

The month of January was a busy month with Semester 1 and Semester 3 university exams. Mathematical Physics (PHY 511) and Nuclear Physics (PHY 533) was quite manageable ones as per student’s opinions, which is a good news to share with you all. On February 2, 2016, we organised a seminar on “Neutrino, A Solution to Enigma” It was a popular talk focusing on the general aspects of Nobel Prize in Physics 2015 and to explain to the common listeners the meaning and significance of neutrino to grand design of the Universe. There were 58 participants who include Prof. Gopchandran, our Guide, my friends- Mr. Siddik, Department of Economics, Mr. Vishnu Narayanan, Department of English, Mr. Binu, Department of Opto-electronics. Attaching some photos of the same.

A small treat for my colleagues

As semester II has started, first year students were taken to the garden outside the department for a brief session to explain how demanding the nature of semester is, and how to take care of it judiciously. Students have promised that they would make a continual effort in making the semester lively, informative and useful one. Being a course adviser, it was my pleasure to take them for a coffee to nearby canteen. Again I believe that a coffee may not be the best part in the gathering, rather the togetherness is the best part of this meeting. And “my students are just the best”. Again, adding some photos of the same. Let me share with you an interesting fact. We all know that time travel is not possible and it is forbidden by special theory of relativity. But these snaps taken by a camera brings back all those moments in just a matter of time.

Let me share with you an interesting fact of this week. We're in the middle of a four week period where early risers have been treated to a rare astronomical sight: 5 planets right in a row! It's the first time since 2005 that we've been able to see all five planets lined up. The show has been going on since mid-January. I, Bibin (Mphil), Sajin (M Sc II year), Sreerag (M Sc II Year) and Uday were fortunate enough to visit Observatory on February 2016. Some snaps taken by Sreerag (M Sc II Year)

On February 5,2016 I delivered a talk on “The expanse of Nano” at St. Michael’s college, Cherthala. This college means a lot to me. I Studied by B Sc (Physics) in this college. My fathers, Prof. K A Solaman, my mother, Prof. K V Stella were former Head of the Department (Physics) of this institution. I still remember the days when I used to take seminars in front of them in B Sc classes. Whatever Physics, I know today is because of my father. He taught me how it should be taught and I have never seen someone teaching better than him. I find a resonance in his frequency and mine which could have been the reason for maximum power transfer. My mother helped me to get the confidence in me to work hard while taking a seminar or teaching a topic in class. She found in me a teacher and said to me that I could be good teacher in years to come. Her comments, critical statements still help me to improve my talks today. I believe that if someone supports like they do, then no worries could be shake your world down. So my message is to keep someone motivating always with your side, say your parents, friends or someone very influential, just like my sister. I write this blog to my listeners to convey a message.  I need all to study Physics as good as possible. May be a little more push could see you through. Especially to the students in St. Michael’s college, I want you all to study well. We, Department of Physics, St. Michael’s College were one known in the university for 100% pass with >90% distinction. The students makes the college, its repute depends on your attitude. Work well my dear ones to succeed and believe me Physics is not actually a boring subject. The talk was managed well and the best part of the event was that I could collect the memento from my father. Attaching the Photos of the same...
