ILLUMINATI- ALTAR OF SCIENCE

As per orders from Kerala University Vice Chancellor, 25 th and 26 th of November 2014, were decided to be allotted for cleaning day activities in Kerala University campus. We, Department of Physics, also actively participated in the foresaid activities in association with Department of Nanotechnology. Dr. Abdul Khader, HOD, Department of Nanotechnology and Dr Biju, HOD, Department of Physics, lead the faculty and student community to participate in the cleaning of department premises and disposal of waste.           Today, Department of Physics was able to organize a talk by Professor V P N Namboodiri, currently emeritus professor at the international school of photonics under Cochin University of Science And  Technology (CUSAT) and emeritus professor at Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), on Non Linear optics-its properties and application. The talk highlighted on the application on Non-linear materials in optical shutter application. It was quite informative as it touched many of the basic aspects of Non-Linear Optics. I thank Professor V P N Namboodiri for taking efforts in coming to our department on time (sharp 9:30 am) and enlighten us with his tremendous, spirited talk. It is an inspiration for all the young minds in our department to see real man of science delivering a talk. We also celebrated nation Integrity day. Today, I thought to put a tile related to our Malayalam Calendar and also I am sharing a thought for the day.   It is with love and sense of belongings that I am writing about few outcomes that happened last few days. I attended a three day national seminar conducted by department of chemistry from 5 to 7 November, 2014. Seminar focused on "Frontiers of Polymer and Advanced Materials (FPAM 2014). I could meet my old hostel mate Dr. Santhosh, now Scientist, VSSC, Trivandrum the very next day of the start of seminar, as he was delivering an invited lecture on shape memory polymers. The talk was quite interesting as it touched Upton a very fascinating aspect of shape sensing smart materials.
