Happy Christmas and Happy New Year

Dear all, It is long time since I had post any activities in our department. Actually I was waiting so that I could post it BIG. Any way I wish you (belated) Happy Christmas and Happy New Year. Let me take this opportunity to share some information about Observatory and its prospects with regard to our development of our Department. Let me give its title as Our Dream The Thiruvananthapuram Observatory stands on a hill, about 60 feet high, and 200 feet above the level of sea from which it is distant, in a straight line, about two miles. It commands an extensive and beautiful view of an undulating and finely variegated country towards north, the east, and the south-and of the sea horizon to the west. The eastern view is terminated by the Ghat Mountains. The geographical situation of the Observatory is 8 degree 30 min northern latitude and 76 degree 59 min eastern longitude . Cleaning Day activities on 25.11.2014

As per orders from Kerala University Vice Chancellor, 25 th and 26 th of November 2014, were decided to be allotted for cleaning day activities in Kerala University campus. We, Department of Physics, also actively participated in the foresaid activities in association with Department of Nanotechnology. Dr. Abdul Khader, HOD, Department of Nanotechnology and Dr Biju, HOD, Department of Physics, lead the faculty and student community to participate in the cleaning of department premises and disposal of waste. Talk by Professor V P N Namboodiri, President of Swadeshi Science Movement.

          Today, Department of Physics was able to organize a talk by Professor V P N Namboodiri, currently emeritus professor at the international school of photonics under Cochin University of Science And  Technology (CUSAT) and emeritus professor at Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), on Non Linear optics-its properties and application. The talk highlighted on the application on Non-linear materials in optical shutter application. It was quite informative as it touched many of the basic aspects of Non-Linear Optics. I thank Professor V P N Namboodiri for taking efforts in coming to our department on time (sharp 9:30 am) and enlighten us with his tremendous, spirited talk. It is an inspiration for all the young minds in our department to see real man of science delivering a talk. We also celebrated nation Integrity day.
